The Sponsored Ride or Stride

The largest source of the Trust’s income comes from the Sponsored Bicycle Ride - a National event which takes place on the 2nd Saturday in September each year - recently renamed the Ride or Stride (StRide) in Oxfordshire to include walkers.

StRiders are sponsored for the number of churches they can visit in the day.

540 churches are visited by over 900 cyclists and walkers, and at least 2,000 people help keep these churches open from 10am to 6pm.

In recent years thousands of people from 550 churches and chapels in the County have participated in this popular occasion which provides the opportunity to visit churches as well as raise much needed money for the Trust and the churches.   Many others welcome StRiders at their places of worship and sign their forms, and they too can be sponsored.

Since it was started in 1986 the annual ride has raised over £1.5 million, half of which has gone to the churches nominated by the participants and the other half to the Trust.
