Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust

Instructions for Setting Up a JustGiving Web Page

You are on your way to our JustGiving site!  Thank you for supporting us.

If you do not want to set up a fundraising page you can click    justgivingsmall  to make a straightforward donation...
however, we would like to encourage you to set up your own JustGiving web page, following the instructions below:

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor people or get yourself sponsored.  Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 25% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

OHCT will use half your donation to give grants to churches and chapels in Oxfordshire of all denominations towards the cost of major fabric repairs. The other half of the money you raise will go directly to the church that you specify.
Please make sure that you mention your church's name and its town or village in the 'Your story' section when you edit your message in the next stage so that we can send the money to the right place.

You may find it helpful to print the instructions (below) for making your own JustGiving web page.  It may look daunting but it is actually quick with just 20 short and easy steps! Once you have set up your JustGiving page you can change it later, adding photos or more information, you just need to log back in.

Instructions for making your own JustGiving fundraising web page.

1. Click on the JustGiving logo above. (This will take you to www.JustGiving.com.)

2. On the Make your own JustGiving page, click the blue MAKE YOUR PAGE button.

3. In answer to the question Firstly do you have an account? Either log in if you already have an account or create an account by filling in the fields marked with a red * and any others that may be helpful. In this case choose and enter a password that you will remember!

4. At the next page, Let us know what you’re doing,
click the Choose button against An organised event.

5. In response to Choose one of your charity's favourite events, click the Choose button under 10 September 2011.

6. At Choose your own web address - the more memorable the better, leave the offered web address if you are happy with it. Otherwise type your preferred address for your JustGiving web page and check that it is available. If you are likely to set one up each year you may want to include the year e.g. ANOtherOHCT2011.

7. At Stay in touch – with your charity, please check the box because we would like to stay in touch with you even though we do not send many newsletters.

8. At Stay in touch – with JustGiving, we recommend that you check the box because their blog is interesting and will give you ideas for ways to increase your sponsorship.

9. At Now one last question about Gift Aid..., leave the response My charity is not contributing because the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust is not contributing to the cost of your fundraising.

Click Continue.

10. On the Edit your page page:

Give your page a title like ‘Jim’s Ride & Stride 2011’.

11. If you are going to be sponsored as a group, type the names of the members in the Other Participants box separated by commas.

12. Input a target amount that you aim to raise in the Fundraising target box. You can always revise this amount later if you reach your target.

Click Update page basics.

13. To add a photo or photos or even a video, click on Edit next to photos or videos as appropriate and follow the instructions. It is good to add photos, perhaps of yourself and your church or how about adding a video of your ride after the event to show your friends how you got on and remind them to sponsor you if they have not done so already? If you do not have a photo ready, you can log back into your page later and add one or more.

14. Under Your story the suggested paragraphs are good but we do need to know what church is to receive the half share of your sponsorship money so please make sure you mention it.  If you would rather write this in a Word document it can then be saved, perhaps to be used as a starting point for next year, and then copied into your JustGiving page. The text can also be copied from here and edited.

The following text is only a suggestion that could form the basis from which to write your own message:

You could cut and paste suitable bits of the following but make sure to edit the bits in [SQUARE BRACKETS] if you do!

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This is my annual Ride and Stride in aid of the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust and [YOUR CHURCH].

On 10th September 2011 I plan to [CYCLE or WALK] to [THE NUMBER YOU PLAN TO VISIT] churches in neighbouring villages
...

Use words like these to tell your potential sponsors, briefly, what you plan to do on the Ride and Stride.

All money that you are kind enough to donate through this JustGiving page will come to the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust but the Trust will pay half of the donation to [YOUR CHURCH]. [If your church has a particular project in hand, it does not have to be related to repairing the building, you might like to dedicate this money to that project and explain here what it is.] The share that the Trust retains will go towards grants to churches and chapels in Oxfordshire of all denominations towards the cost of major fabric repairs.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they will never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they will send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it is the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

15. If you wish your page to be shared through Facebook make sure that the box is ticked or if not make sure that it is not ticked.

16. When you are happy with your text, click Update my story.

17. When you are happy with your page click Continue and this takes you to a screen called Control Panel.

18. On your Control Panel there are a number of actions you can take. We suggest the first one should be to click on Edit say a personal thank you. Your thank you message will be sent automatically to each of your sponsors so you might like to personalise it.

You may like to use words like these:

Thank you very much for your donation. As you will be aware, church congregations are decreasing and this means that the money available for maintaining church buildings is also decreasing. Your donation helps churches in Oxfordshire in two ways: half of it will help [Church name, Place,] for [name a project the money will be used for or the General Fund]. The other half will be used by the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust to make grants to churches and chapels in Oxfordshire of all denominations towards the cost of major fabric repairs.

Thank you again. [Your name].

When you are happy with your thank you message, click Save.

19. Back on your Control Panel you can e-mail your page to your family and friends wherever they are in the world, or publish it on Facebook. You can also keep your page and your thank you message up to date. You should also receive an e-mail saying that you have set up successfully a JustGiving page and a link to the webpage which can be e-mailed out to family and friends.

20. At your page people will see a short paragraph explaining what the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust is and does but you may like to add some words to your email explaining why you are sending it.

We, at OHCT, hope the above guidance is helpful. We hope that you will enjoy the day of the Ride and Stride and get much pleasure from your efforts to preserve the historic churches and chapels of Oxfordshire for posterity.

Many thanks for supporting Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust.
